Dark walls in small rooms: when it works
A deep colour can make a small room feel snug rather than cramped. The trick is in the finish and the trim.

Go all the way
Paint the ceiling and trim the same deep colour, or use crisp white trim for contrast. Half-measures make the room look unfinished.
Choose a flat or matte finish
Matte hides wall flaws and keeps the colour deep. Use satin on trim so it can be wiped.
Light it well
Dark rooms need layered light: a ceiling light, a lamp and a bright window.
